It may be tempting to try to impress on the Resume by adding a few lies here and there, or at least laying it out thick.
It is important to be honest and lies on the Resume are a bad move.
In the worst case scenario you may be given a moment on the Job Interview to demonstrate one of those skills you have mentioned. Then it will be a memorable moment when you can not do what you have told.
According to outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas; 10-30 % of job seekers shade the truth or lie on their resumes.
The most common lies are:
- Education: Maybe you are a few credits short of the degree, and say you have the degree.
- Job Title: Boosting the job title to the better.
- Compensation: It is easier to demand higher pay when you previous job was high. Lies about compensation are often told with lies about the job title.
- Reason for leaving: Making up another reason for leaving if you got laid off because of poor performance or some other negative issue.
- Accomplishments: Boosting once contribution to a project or the business.
